Bowen Island is just a short ferry ride out of Vancouver. A very beautiful place diverse in environment. Its makes for a great day trip to get out of the big city, as its so close to the mainland, but so far because everything is so wild, and natural.
This man here, works in this Salmon Hatchery, where they take eggs of Salmon, let them hatch in a safe environment, allow them to grow some, then release them back out into the streams.
I went on a small tour to Bowen Island organized by the hostel, and the tour guide said in the 3 years he has lead the tours, the hatchery has only even been open once. So lucky for us it was, as i found it very interesting.
Lilypads on the Lake
This photo isn't all that great, but what its showing is this tree that lives off dead trees or old logs. Its very amazing to see, as once there is no nutrients left in the log, it is decomposed and the striving tree is left hollow underneath, then too will die. On a couple of occasions there was a log with a tree that had previously survived of off it, which then had a tree currently living of it. (if that makes sense, so it was a chain of 3 trees basically)
Another crazy tree living out of a log
On the island when chopping down a dead tree, or a tree which may block a path they used to dispose of the tree. But now what they do is simply through it back into the forest, or near where its fallen, because the concept being quite logical, that if it had naturally fallen, the plants, animals and creatures around it would have utilized it. I found that very interesting.
Large banana slugs were abundant
Lynn Valley Canyon - North of Vancouver
This was an amazing spot. Here the water was a crystal clear green, most probably the most beautiful location I've seen so far. The water in this image was crazy deep.
What I consider a typical travelers shot- at that same location
What originally drew us (myself a girl from Quebec, and a swiss guy) to Lynn Valley was the suspension bridge, as there is a large tourist attraction called Capilano Suspension Bridge, its i think the longest in the world, you needed to pay $30 to cross, so us being travelers took the next best and free option Lynn valley Canyon Suspension Bridge
us on the bridge
